We’re looking for talented people to join our all-volunteer leadership team! See below for the position descriptions and application links. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

UVYP Steering Committee Responsibilities

In addition to the role-specific tasks (below), all members of the Steering Committee are expected to do the following things as part of their role:

  • Hold 2-3 committee meetings per quarter (for Events Chair, Professional Development Chair, and Marketing and Communications Chair only)
  • Attend quarterly UVYP Steering Committee meetings
  • Attend at least 2 UVYP events per quarter
  • Be responsive to UVYP messages (especially on Discord)
  • Take initiative and set goals for the role
  • Keep organized records and maintain confidentiality
Each Steering Committee term lasts for 1 year. members are expected to serve in their role for at least 1 year. At the end of each 1-year term, Steering Committee members may opt to stay on for another term if it is mutually agreeable

UVYP Steering Committee Position Descriptions

The person in charge of UVYP; manage the Steering committee and other strategic relationships; ensure UVYP grows and improves.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary representative of UVYP
  • Schedule and lead quarterly Steering Committee meetings.
  • Provide leadership to the SC and UVYP Ambassadors
  • Additional responsibilities: overall tracking of the organization, representation to partners, organizing meetings, liaising with UVBA, anything else as needed to support the success of the organization
  • Promote inclusivity and adherence to the code of conduct within the Steering Committee and and UVYP as a whole.

Eligibility: Approximately 20-40 years old, live and/or work in the Upper Valley, and serve on the UVYP Steering Committee for at least 6 months within the past 3 years.

Cultivate volunteer opportunities, recruit new members, and find creative ways to strengthen and support the UVYP community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate at least 1-2 volunteer events per quarter for UVYP members
  • Work to increase UVYP membership, and be an active support to new and existing UVYP members
  • Organize clubs and recurring group events to help members build community within UVYP
  • Create and manage exciting projects to help meet the evolving needs of the UVYP community
    • Examples of potential projects include: managing The UVYP Insider’s Guide to the Upper Valley, planning singles events, etc 
  • Build in accessibility so that all members have the opportunity to participate in volunteering events and other UVYP special projects

Eligibility: Approximately 20-40 years old, live and/or work in the Upper Valley, and serve on any UVYP committee for at least 6 months. (The committee requirement is waived in 2023 because subcommittees are just starting.)

Plan and execute fun and inclusive social events on a monthly basis for UVYP members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chair the Events Committee
  • Organize at least 2-4+ social events per month
  • Oversee all social event planning details and keep records of event details and contacts
  • Coordinate with the Marketing and Communications Chair on social event promotion
  • Prioritize making social events accessible for all UVYP members to be able to attend

Eligibility: Approximately 20-40 years old, live and/or work in the Upper Valley, and serve on the UVYP Events Committee for at least 6 months.

Manage the public image of UVYP through strategic communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chair the Marketing and Communications Committee
  • Responsible for UVYP social media strategy
  • Promote UVYP events and initiatives
  • Design logos, graphics, and posters
  • Promote accessibility in all UVYP marketing materials

Eligibility: Approximately 20-40 years old, live and/or work in the Upper Valley, and serve on any UVYP committee for at least 6 months. (The committee requirement is waived in 2023 because subcommittees are just starting.)

Responsible for maintaining the UVYP infrastructure, files, and procedures and supporting the UVYP Chair.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all UVYP records are organized and up to date.
  • Track the UVYP Budget
  • Fill in for SC roles if a position becomes vacant or when the current chair is sick
  • Run engagement programs in Discord
  • Coordinate with the UVYP Chair on key operational priorities

Eligibility: Approximately 20-40 years old, live and/or work in the Upper Valley, and serve on any UVYP committee for at least 6 months. (The committee requirement is waived in 2023 because subcommittees are just starting.)

Responsible for creating professional development opportunities for UVYP members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chair the Professional Development Committee
  • Plan at least 2 networking & professional development events for members and community per quarter
  • Plan other professional development opportunities throughout the year in addition to events
  • Cultivate partnerships with community organizations and businesses to strengthen UVYP’s business ties and to generate opportunities for UVYP members
  • Build in accessibility so that all members have the opportunity to participate in professional development events and opportunities

Eligibility: Approximately 20-40 years old, live and/or work in the Upper Valley, and serve on any UVYP committee for at least 6 months. (The committee requirement is waived in 2023 because subcommittees are just starting.)

Actively seek out ways for UVYP to connect with the Upper Valley community,  and pursue special projects that fall outside of other chair roles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chair the Special Projects Committee which may exist on a temporary or permanent basis as necessary
  • Create and manage exciting projects and opportunities for UVYP
    • Examples of potential projects include: run civic engagement programming, create opportunities for partnerships with local organizations, etc.
  • Establish relationships with the business community and local employers, and other organizations for the purposes of advancing UVYP
  • Build in accessibility so that all members have the opportunity to participate in volunteering events and other UVYP special projects

UVYP Subcommittees & Ambassadors

UVYP Ambassador is the title given to anyone who is serving on any of the UVYP subcommittees. Help shape the future of UVYP events, professional development, marketing, and special projects!

Being a UVYP Ambassador is a great way to get involved in UVYP leadership in a more low-key way than joining the Steering Committee. You can choose to apply to join one or more subcommittees based on your interests and time commitment.

UVYP Ambassador Responsibilities

In addition to the committee-specific tasks (below), all UVYP Ambassadors are expected to do the following things as part of their role:

  • Attend meetings for their chosen subcommittee(s). Each subcommittee holds about 8-12 meetings per year
  • Work on relevant tasks outside of meetings
  • Attend at least 1 UVYP event per quarter
  • Be active on Discord and responsive to UVYP messages
Eligibility: Any 20-40 years old who lives or works in the Upper Valley is eligible to become a UVYP Ambassador.

UVYP Subcommittee Descriptions

About the Events committee:

  • Meet about once per month on zoom (additional time will be spent working on events outside of meetings)
  • Plan and execute 2-4+ social events every month
  • Involved in every stage of the event planning process from brainstorming, reaching out to venues, writing event descriptions, etc.
  • Build in accessibility so that all members have the opportunity to participate in events

About the Leadership & Professional Development committee:

  • Plan networking & professional development opportunities and events
  • Cultivate partnerships with community organizations and businesses
  • Build in accessibility so that all members have the opportunity to participate

About the Marketing and Communications committee:

  • Craft a strategy and manage UVYP social media, online presence, and other communications
  • Write and send monthly newsletter emails
  • Promote UVYP branding and image
  • Build in accessibility in all communications

Unlike the other committees, the Special Projects committee is not necessarily a permanent group. The committee can be called on a permanent or  temporary basis by the Special Projects Chair as needed to support ongoing projects.
